When the search engine looks for the title tag, it understands what the page is all about so the title tag generally tells the search engine what the page is actually about and the page on your website is relevant for that particular focus keyword or keyword phrase.

Best Practices for Title Tag

    • The title tag should be unique for every page.
    • Include focus keyword in the title at the beginning of the sentence.

4. CONTENT WITH TARGETED KEYWORD PHRASES

Your content is the soul of your website. With Google Panda updates, if you have multiple pages with the same content or content of other people’s website you will get penalized by Google and as a result, your search rankings will suffer.

Best Practices

  • Your content must be unique and relevant for the selected keyword.

  • Include focus keyword and also the other keywords.

  • Each page should have at least 300 words of content.

  • Do not overuse your keyword phrase but just use it 2 – 4 times within your content.

  • Create unique content for every blog, guest blog posts and do not copy paste into your website.

5. HEADER TAGS AND KEYWORD PHRASES

The H1 tag also known as header tag is mostly like the key line of your web page.

Best Practices

  • You should only use your keyword phrase once in the H1 tag.

  • Use Title case.

  • On the (SEO) pages which you are trying to drive unique and organic traffic, use this H1 tag.

  • When you have multiple sections use the H2 (second headers).

  • Keep other relevant keywords in H3 – H5 if possible.

Example of an H1 tag being optimized for ‘ Digital Marketing Company in Hyderabad’

6.  IMAGE ALT TAGS AND FILE NAMES

Alt tag usually contains the name of the image or the description of the image that is visible in the case when the image isn’t displayed.

Alt tags are good for accessibility and also for the search engines.

Best Practices

  • All images should use relevant alt tags.

  • Include your focus keyword/keyword phrase in the file name.

  • Keep the keyword in the ALT tag.

  • Always use lowercase for file names and use hyphens (-) to separate the words.

  • Do not use non-alpha characters in your image or file names(i.e %, $ etc).

7. MAKE CONTENT EASY TO READ

Making your content easy to read and understand will help your users to easily scrutinize your content and find the keywords they are searching for.

Best Practices

  • Use bolding and bullet points to separate the words in the text.
  • Keep your content relevant and easy to read.

8. INTERNAL PAGE LINKING WITH ANCHOR TEXT

Internal links provide links to all the relevant internal pages.

Internal linking plays a key role because it strengthens those keywords internally for those pages and allows users to navigate through the website.

It also tells the search engines that the page is relevant for that keyword phrase.

Best Practices

  • Select good anchor text (keywords) to use in the actual link while linking one page to another from within the content on the same site.

For example instead of giving “click here to see our partners” use “our partners of digital marketing”.

Example of how to use anchor text in your Internal links

The SEO text links to our SEO services page, SMM text links to our social media marketing services page etc.
